Frequently Asked Questions
How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?
Lasers work by emitting specialized, safe yet powerful, single
wavelength beams of light. Laser light, if utilized properly, has
properties that allow it to pass harmlessly through normal skin layers
until it reaches the ink in your unwanted tattoo. The light energy
called photon energy will be converted into thermal (heat), acoustic
(sound) and mechanical (physical) energy upon hitting the large target
ink particles. This leads to the breakdown of these larger ink particles
into many smaller ink particles. These small particles can now be
processed by your body’s natural cleansing mechanism and removed.
Can anyone remove my tattoo if they have a laser?
The proper combination of laser equipment, experience and technique is
critical to the safety and effectiveness of laser tattoo removal. All
tattoos are unique and different inks in different people differ in
their responses. Every laser tattoo removal procedure is a complex
sophisticated procedure requiring knowledge of laser physics, tattoo
inks, and skin biology. I customize each treatment I perform. I choose
which of of my lasers to use, the correct laser wavelengths, the optimal
energy level and proper laser spot sizes necessary for the safest,
quickest and most effective treatment of your unwanted tattoo. Please

Why Patients Choose Dr. Rand.
Is Laser Tattoo Removal a one-time procedure?
No. Multiple treatments are always required. With each successive
treatment there is more clearance of ink. Treatments are separated in
time from a minimum of 6-8 weeks to several months depending on the
tattoo. Over time, as the ink is gradually cleared, the tattoo color
intensity and appearance will fade.
Does tattoo size determine the number of treatments needed?
No. Most people mistakenly believe that a tattoos size is the most
important factor determining the number of treatments needed This is
absolutely false. Other factors are much more important. Please follow
this link:
What Do Results Depend On?
Do smaller tattoos get better results than big tattoos?
No. Once again, size is perhaps the least important factor. Some large
tattoos respond beautifully and some small tattoos are very difficult.

What Do Results Depend On?
What areas of the body do you perform laser tattoo removal on?
I regularly treat tattoos of all sizes on the hands, neck, arms, legs,
back, chest, breasts, stomach, buttock, groin, legs, and feet. I do not
treat facial tattoos.
Can I lighten my tattoo in order to cover it with another tattoo?
Yes. Tattoo artists refer me many patients who request that I lighten
their tattoos before cover up work is performed. This often allows for
greater choice in new tattoo design and improves the final result.

Am I going to have to take off from work or school?
No. Most people go back to work or school same day or next. The only
exceptions may be my patients with multiple tattoos, sleeves or very
large tattoos. Sometimes these patients choose to take a day off.
How much will removing my tattoo cost?
Tattoo removal is affordable. However, without an assessment of your
tattoo and the number of treatments required, I cannot accurately
provide you with a true picture of your investment..
Price quotes and phone estimates are good marketing tools not good
medicine. I work with patients of all income levels, provide interest
free financing and almost always find a way to help a patient meet their
goals. Please follow this link:

How do I know if I am a good candidate for laser tattoo removal?
Not all tattoos are equally treatable and some tattoos are not good
candidates at all. There is no way to answer this question on the
telephone. You deserve to have your questions answered honestly and
accurately. After performing 20,000 laser tattoo removal treatments
since 1995, I know that this can only be done by examining your tattoo
in person.
