New York State Law & Tattoo Removal
 

New York State has ruled that Laser Tattoo Removal is a medical procedure. Laser Tattoo Removal may be performed only by these medical practitioners:

1. Medical Doctor (M.D. or D.O.)
2. Nurse Practitioner (R.N.P.) in a collaborative relationship with a Medical Doctor
3. Physician Assistant (P.A.) under the supervision of a Medical Doctor

New York State does not recognize the right of any other personnel to perform this medical procedure even if they have “medical supervision” and despite any additional “training” or “certification”.

Examples of unapproved personnel include:

  Cosmetologists
  Electrologists
  Skin “Specialists”
  Beauticians
  “Certified” Laser Technicians
  Medical Assistants
  Tattoo Artists
  Massage Therapists
  Spa Attendants

**** It is not appropriate in New York State for any of the unapproved personnel listed above to perform Laser Tattoo Removal under any circumstances.
